On powerpoint presentations 2

Sep30

One thing doesn’t change from high school to university: the use and abuse of powerpoint presentations during seminars and tutorials. How necessary is it really to have all of your relevant information projected onto a screen, unless the class is taking notes from them (which they usually aren’t)? Last week presentations began in my classes, and the pain started:

For independent expatriate wannabes 2

Sep29

I read a y-file article last week about a book Atkinson professor Julia Richardson has written, The Independent Expatriate: Academics Abroad. It’s specifically about the experiences of British academics who take a position or conduct their research abroad, not really relevant stuff for students (unless any of you out there plan on becoming academics) but there were three things she said about her book that resonated with me:

How goes the OUF? Oof! 2

“We’re going to the circus, we’re going to the fair. To see a senorita with flowers in her hair.”

Well…there was neither a circus nor a senorita, but there definitely was a fair. The Ontario Universities Fair that is! (Btw, I loved that song when I was kid!)

I love the G.T.A!

I had the greatest week ever! Honestly, the enthusiasm and the decisiveness of the applicants is so gratifying.

After Chris and Vince played my favorite Alicia Keys song on the piano and sang the lyrics, I am officially going to take vocal and piano lessons. You boys are so talented, that has been the highlight of my week!  She’d be blown away if she heard you both play the piano and sing like that! St Micheal’s Choir, thank you so much for continue reading »

CO-OP programs…do you, how do I, and what the huh? 0

A reoccurring concern was “do you offer CO-OP programs?” I want to discuss this a bit because it is a tricky answer and you will see why in just a moment. continue reading »

On the road part 2 0

Sep26

Hello fellow blogger’s! I would first like to start off by saying thank you to the students that I met this week. I felt so welcome at all of the schools and had so much help with all of my boxes and bags without even asking, especially in the schools that have a lot of stairs  :)   continue reading »

A little bit on Presidential Regulation Number 5 6

Sep25

Stumbling along through Wikipedia, I found out this interesting fact about York: before 1989, being a member of a fraternity or a sorority while attending York University was forbidden.

Two months before I fly 0

Sep24

I officially have no time. I’ve bought myself a plane ticket to Geneva in December, which only gives me two months to chase down references and write my big academic essay submission for grad school.
