On the Road Part 8… 1

Nov4

Hello again….feels like its been a while since I have posted. I hope your Halloween was great! I would love to hear about the different costumes worn last weekend, drop me a note and let me know!

Well last week and this week I am travelling in and around the GTA. I actually had a visit last week at my former High School :)  Holy Cross Catholic Academy in Woodbridge. It was so great to see all my old teachers and especially my guidance counsellor, Mrs. Bonfigli. The school hadn’t changed at all, it was just as I remembered it.I did go and visit all of my favourite spots to hang out when I was a student at Holy Cross. So when I was in high school, back when we had OAC (grade 13) and I was in the process of deciding where I wanted to go for post secondary education and what I wanted to study, it was a very exciting yet overwhelming time. Which many of you are probably feeling as well!

So I thought I had decided the perfect career choice, I wanted to study business, more specifically economics. It is really great to have support from people around you when making your decisions. So many people really are wanting to offer advice. Ultimately the decision is yours but it is great to talk to people around you.

Great people to get advice from could be family, friends, teachers, guidance counsellors. Well I went  to my guidance councellor, Mrs. Bonfigli. After careful thought and consideration, I realized  that business was not for me. I then thought about how much I loved going to my grade 10, 11 and 12 law class and that this is probably the better choice. It really was, I enjoyed every aspect of the Law and Society Program offered at York University. When I determined what area I was interested in, my decision on the University was a lot easier because York, being one of my top choices, happened to be the only school offering the law and society program.

So the moral of the story is, it is okay if you do not know what you want to study! With so many choices and paths you can follow, your options are endless. The most important thing to remember is take what you absolutely love. Even if you do know what you are interested in, you most likely will change you mind by the time you get to university or college or into the work force. That is also okay.

Another great thing about York is that if you do not know what you want to study, we have the choice of the “undecided major” so you can come in your first year, take a variety of different course that your interested in, anything from, science, to dance, to math, and then decide the next year what your interested in studying. Just another great option offered at York! Many students I have talked to had no idea this was even an option, this could be the option for you!

Hope this helps

Have a great week!!

Andrea
